Growing up in a small house somewhere in a small hamlet, in a family with 4 children where his father never married his mother, Renost couldn't wait to leave his old existence and to turn over a new leaf somewhere in Paris, where he hoped he could find a job and start a family.
But, the indigence and misery from the Capital shattered his dreams and soon, Renost and his young wife, Haiete, were forced to cope with a precarious existence somewhere across the tracks.

Man, Haiete Bonnet really is evil! I wonder how her evil personality and ways are going to influence the family's social status. Hmmm.... it's going to be interesting. Though, in a Machiavellian context, vice becomes a virtue, and virtue becomes a vice. So, this "evil" character may in fact be "virtuous", if she uses cunning to make life work the way she wants to. Perhaps, the people around her will see her very "black-hearted" or "gossipy" or "impertinent", but all she is clearly a misunderstood person. It happens, unfortunately, in many stories. Kissin' Kate Barlow in Louis Sachar's Holes is one of those misunderstood "evil" characters.
Well, she's not exactly evil ... more like ... she had a hard life since she was a baby (her mother died giving birth to her, her step-mother died too and her father became insane) and now all her dreams had been shattered right before her eyes, so ... yeah, she's kind of black-hearted.She has a rough existence (especially now, that her husband gets drunk every time he gets his wage and spends all their money).I kind of feel sorry for her ... ^^" (I know, I'm the evil one for making her life so hard, but ... I think that's what keeps things interesting).
The next chapter will be about her and Renost and their first years of marriage.
