Isabelle d'Albon de Valois

Name: Isabella d'Esté (née Isabelle d'Albon)
Born: 1608
Traits: Candid, Cultured, Determined, Discreet, Sorrowful
Romantic History: Remont de Valois (ex-husband)
Husband: None
Parents: Guigues Levieux d'Albon and Marie Victoire de Noailles d'Albon
Aspiration: Family
Character Alignment: Neutral
Rang: Marchesa di Mantova

After a quiet wedding in her husband's parents' forecourt, somewhere in the countryside, Isabelle and her husband, Remont, took adieu from their families and fast friends and left for Paris, where they arrived two days later, after a long and wearying journey.
Assisted by her husband, Isabelle stepped out of the coach relieved to finally be able to stretch her legs. The residence where they arrived, situated in Marais and very close to Place des Vosges, along with the maids and footmen represented the bride's dowry.
A week later, the young couple was already at the Court, completing the exotic and charming scenery. There, Isabelle and Remont easily fell in love with the wastefulness and luxury that surrounded them and the couple soon outran the constable. But that wasn't something off the beaten track. In fact, that was the current situation for most of the nobles around the Royal Court. While Isabelle organized banquets and spent her afternoons with jewellers, dressmakers and her hairdresser, Remont joined the other young nobles in hunting and so, the two newlyweds started acting more like strangers to each other, each of the two minding their own affairs.
Of course, that was one of the reasons why the young Baroness was taken by surprise by the rumours about her husband being arrested for conspiracy.Even so, she wasn't worried, knowing too well that after a sojourn spent at Bastille, her husband would probably be absolved and everything would pass into silence.
Unfortunately the things aggravated and a couple of months later the two of them had to make their farewells as Remont was escorted to the scaffolding. The next morning all the widow's possessions were confiscated, along with the beautiful house from Marais, while all her servants played invisible.
In only one day Isabelle had to come to herself: she was now a disgraced widow, alone on the streets of Paris, expecting her dead husband's baby.

I think it's a pity that her husband has died. Now she has no one to care for her. Back then, women didn't have as many opportunities as today, so she's pretty much stuck. Let's just hope that her child would be a son. If her child is a son, then maybe there would be hope, because she could then pass on the property to her son. Isabelle could also get married to another man, but that means sharing the wealth, which may have dubious consequences. She may also return to the house of her father and live with her father or brother to support her and the her child. :-D

Unfortunately, she gave birth to a daughter (Athénais).
But she's wealthy enough to live on her own while administrating her estate.Though she's a little too young to be a widow (she was only 17 at the end of this round), I think she's smart enough and she'll manage somehow.

I know there aren't so many opportunities for her, but she was born in one of the most powerful noble families and she's also the widow of a man born in a noble family, so I don't think I have to worry about her ^^ I just have to find some ideas about how to write something interesting ^^

Since Isabelle has no husband telling her what to do and her father is living miles away, I think Isabelle can decide for herself what she wants to do in life. Maybe Isabelle may hire a tutor - a good one - who can teach her skills and knowledge. Then she may apply to university, and may be the first woman who actually attends the university as a student. She studies "Theology" (in the actual game, I don't think there is a "Theology" major) in order to become a clergywoman in her adult life. That way, she may devote the rest of her life to God. Once in a while, she may spend time with her only family member, Athenais.

Another path would be allowing her to remarry, but to the man she loves.

In The Sims 2 University, there is the "Philosophy" major. So, Isabelle may become a Philosophy major in order to pursue a career in Theology. Isabelle, the theologian, historian, and clergywoman!

Well, I haven't considered sending anyone to the University, at least not until now.It takes too long and I'm a little impatient with those things, especially now that there are more and more people in the Kingdom and the rotations take longer >.>
I don't really have a story for her yet, but I'm sure I'll come with something by the time this rotation is over ^^ And I don't think the society is ready for a woman to attend University >.> And Isabelle is not exactly a papist (otherwise she would take the veil as soon as her daughter is old enough to take care of herself XD).I think she will get re-married ... or she'll just enjoy her life.Maybe she'll move in Paris and buy a place at the Court (her family is influential enough for that) and live her life around the Royal family ^^ The Crown Prince is young and charming so ... you never know ^^

By the way, I already have a (soon to be) important clergywoman in the game ^^ Maybe I will write some more about her this round ^^

Just a head's up: a papist is a usually disparaging term toward Roman Catholics by Protestants. "Papa" means pope, so "papist" means "follower of the Pope". It's best to refer to Roman Catholics as Roman Catholics, not Papists. :-)

Roman Catholicism is REAL religion, and yes, there are still people who still follow the religion. ;-)

(Not me. I'm just an atheist.)

I know what it means >.> Otherwise I wouldn't use it ^^" But I didn't mean to offend anyone XD I was just talking about a character and I used some argot (guess I read too many of Anne Golon's books).
What I meant was that Isabelle is a Catholic character (she was born in a Catholic family and she was also christened), but she's kind of an agnostic (she prefers to judge the world by her own principles and live her life more like she wants).

So I'm sorry if I didn't choose the right words or if I offended somebody, because that wasn't my intention. Most of my family is Roman Catholic (even if they're not religious people) and even if I'm kind of an atheist, I don't judge people by their religion XD

That's OK. No need for an apology. I understand.

It's still interesting how you wonderfully incorporated religion into the game. Religion can make characters livelier, because real people sometimes are influenced/motivated by religion for good or bad. It's hard to erase this fact of life in the present day, let alone in the past. Religion can be seen as a coping mechanism. If someone dies, who is there to console you other than God? If someone wrongs you, who is there to tell what you need to do to seek vengeance or remain peaceful? That sort of thinking.

Good luck with your story! :-D

Please check out my a preview picture of my Verona neighborhood on my Google blog! It's still under construction.

I think I still have to build a smaller residential manor-house called "Maplewood Manor" and a couple of community lots.

So, I have a lot of building.

Hey, are you building any community lots in your game? So far, I've seen your Sims only on their home lots. Do your Sims have any businesses yet? Have they gone to community lots to get married or go on vacation?

I read your blog and I really like your ideas, so I can't wait to see more ^^

Well, I just edited my last two posts on this blog because I got some new ideas for Isabelle ^^ I should have written a story about her and her husband, but I didn't have the photos so I included everything in their profiles. But I promise there will be a story about Isabelle next time ^^

I see you have updated your most recent blog entry.

Ouch. Isabelle's husband has lost the King's favor? That stinks. So much for living in the well-to-do mansion by herself. Hey, are you using the dowry system or the bride price system? Bride price is where the groom family pays to the bride family. Dowry is where the bride family pays to the groom family. If you are using the bride price system, then Isabelle may return to the home of her father and receive her bride price to live off of. As shelter, she may stay with her father or brother. :)

If you are using the dowry system, then tough luck. XD

Hope she finds a home soon. :D

I haven't decided on a system yet, but this time I think I used the one with the dowry (the couple's house in Paris represented Isabelle's dowry).
So yes, she will have a tough life from now on because, as Remont's wife, she will also be disgraced. She also lost all her possessions and she can't be helped by her family, because now I don't think they want to deal with her situation. She also just gave birth to a baby girl whom she has to raise all by herself.

But I've got some ideas for her, don't worry ^^ And I promise it will be something interesting.
